The Fortress on the Maota Scarp
Commissioned 1362 CE by Banjara Gypsies (Original structure) // Mewar Kingdom (Developed later)
Lake Pichola was created in 1362 AD by a local Banjara tribesman. Maharana Udai Singh II later enlarged the lake in the 16th century after founding the city of Udaipur. It is the oldest and one of the largest lakes in the city, formed by damming the Picholi village stream.
The lake is an engineering marvel that defines the city's topography. Its shoreline is dotted with historic ghats, palaces, and havelis, while the four islands within the lake—Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir, and Arsi Vilas—house some of the most important architectural heritage of Mewar.
"Where the water mirrors the history of Mewar, creating a landscape that transcends time."
