The Fortress on the Maota Scarp
Commissioned 1620 CE by Maharana Karan Singh II // Sisodia Rajputs (Mewar)
Jag Mandir was built as a leisure palace and a refuge. It is famously known for providing sanctuary to Prince Khurram (later Emperor Shah Jahan) when he rebelled against his father, Emperor Jahangir. The palace's architecture reportedly inspired some features of the Taj Mahal.
The palace is built primarily of red sandstone and marble. Key features include the Gul Mahal, with its massive domes, and the beautifully landscaped gardens that surround the structure on the island.
