The Fortress on the Maota Scarp
Commissioned 1443 CE by Maharana Kumbha // Sisodia Rajputs (Mewar)
Commissioned by Maharana Kumbha, this fort served as a refuge for the rulers of Mewar during times of danger. It is famously the birthplace of the legendary Maharana Pratap.
The fort is renowned for its defensive wall, which is 36 kilometers long and wide enough for eight horses to ride abreast. The complex contains over 360 temples within its walls, most of which are Jain.
