The Fortress on the Maota Scarp
Commissioned 1459 CE by Rao Jodha // Rathore Rajputs
Founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 when he shifted his capital from Mandore to this more defensible cliff, Mehrangarh has seen centuries of siege and glory. It remains one of the best-preserved forts in the world, still managed by the Jodhpur royal family.
The fort is a stunning fusion of architectural styles, featuring intricately carved latticework, expansive courtyards, and thick sandstone walls that appear to be part of the very cliff they sit upon.
"A fortress that does not just sit on a hill, but seems to grow out of it."
