The Fortress on the Maota Scarp
Commissioned 1805 CE by Guman Chand Patwa // Merchant Guilds of Jaisalmer
Commissioned by the wealthy trader Guman Chand Patwa, this complex was built for his five sons. It was the first haveli built in Jaisalmer and remains the most lavish, representing the immense wealth of the silk route merchants.
The facade is famous for its intricate, almost lace-like stone carvings. It consists of five separate havelis, each with its own style, balcony, and ornate window-work, collectively showcasing the pinnacle of Rajasthani domestic architecture.
"A symphony of stone, capturing the opulence of the golden era."
