The Fortress on the Maota Scarp
Commissioned 1367 CE by Rawal Gadsi Singh // Bhati Rajputs
Gadisar Lake was built in 1367 by the first ruler of Jaisalmer, Rawal Gadsi Singh. For centuries, it was the only source of water for the entire city, making it the most vital site in the desert region.
The entrance to the lake is through the Tilon-ki-Pol, an ornate archway. The shoreline is decorated with various small temples and chhatris (cenotaphs) that create a beautiful reflection in the water, especially during the golden hour.
"A desert sanctuary where water is life and architecture is art."
