The Fortress on the Maota Scarp
Commissioned 1750 CE by Maharaja Madho Singh I // Kachwaha Rajputs
Jal Mahal was not built as a residential palace but rather as a royal hunting lodge for duck shooting parties. Its strategic location in the middle of Man Sagar Lake provided a cool retreat during the scorching summers of Rajasthan.
The palace is a five-story structure, but due to the depth of the lake, four of its floors remain submerged underwater, leaving only the top terrace visible. It is constructed of red sandstone and features beautiful chhatris at the corners, reflecting the classic Rajput style.
